XXVII. Farmer Expo , Debrecen, 31/08/2018
Employees of NeoCons Plus Kft. held presentations
Employees of NeoCons Plus Kft. held two presentations during the professional conferences of the XXVII. Farmer Expo in Debrecen to discuss a crucial current topic, the effects of heat stress, also present in Hungary as a direct consequence of global climate change, on farm animals and the possibilities of protection against it.
Pig Breeding Conference
Being a presenter of the Pig Breeding Conference entitled “The Big Question of our Age: Antibiotic-Free Pig Keeping”, our colleague, Gergely Bakti highlighted the importance of protection against heat stress in the context of antibiotic-free pig keeping. Given that heat stress is a predisposing factor in the development of diseases, maintaining health by preventing heat stress is more effective than “firefighting” with the use of antibiotics.
Cattle Breeding Conference - about heat stress
Being a presenter at the Cattle Breeding Conference entitled “Success lies in the details”, our colleague, Tamás Földes presented the impact of heat stress on dairy cows, its cost implications, the triple system of protection against it, and also discussed some details worthy of attention in order to prevent the harmful consequences of heat stress. High dairy cows are the most susceptible to metabolic “fluctuations”, therefore the application of new solutions such as the use of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and appetite-enhancing plant extracts (PowerJet – Neovia) in this period and in the production group have also been considered. It is already used successfully in the Mediterranean countries, so the heat stress caused in Hungary by the more and more frequent ‘Mediterranean’ summer can be prevented in this way too.
The protection against heat stress returns in optimal conditions
It can be said for both groups of economic livestock that the protection against heat stress represents an extra cost in the process of farming, but in optimal conditions, the invested “energy” returns. Any stress situation (just like heat stress) induces metabolic processes that generate up to 30% energy loss to the account of production. A cardinal problem is reduced feed intake caused by stress, which is the primary cause of production loss, which is also maintained it if we do not intervene. In especially delicate physiological phases (high pregnancy, farrowing/littering, selection, flocking, feed change, etc.), harmful consequences may occur that can cause the animals concerned to be removed from production for a long period of time and/or increase specific costs. The cost of controlling heat stress should be judged by taking into account the above, and a decision shall be made on the optimal and effective solution. The lectures aimed at helping the audience in this, and this is the support NeoCons Plus Kft. strive to provide for all those interested.
P.S.: weather (heat stress) forecast has an increasingly important role in the control of heat stress. Domestic and foreign professionals have developed a map-based heat stress prediction system that allows specialists of the practical field to plan preventive measures that can base and keep their defence against heat stress up-to-date.
