Alterion, the new probioticum of Adisseo
At the end of May we spent two days in the town of Šurda, Belgrade, with our partners in order to learn about the new probiotic, Alterion. Adisseo’s new probiotic is quite versatile, but being its most important feature, it helps to prevent the deadly intestinal inflammation of poultry, which causes a loss of nearly $ 6 billion for farmers worldwide.
The beneficial effect of probiotics has long been known. After 1850, Pasteur came to the conclusion that various bacteria are responsible for the deterioration of milk, cheese or beer. Élie Metchnikoff (Ilya Mechnikov) suggested for the first time that if they are entered into the body through various foods, they can have a positive impact. He observed his practical experience on a group of Bulgarians who consumed sour milk on a daily level, resulting in a long average life.
Collaboration of Novozymes and Adisseo
Line Sildelmann Brinch of the Novozymes company spoke about the close cooperation between the two companies. As Novozymes has a broad knowledge of microbiology, biotechnology and, last but not least, a huge collection of microorganisms, Adisseo is the world’s leading feed additive trader, so joint work was self-evident regarding the newly developed probiotic. In the first round, further development is expected for monogastrics, particularly poultry species, but later in the field of ruminants and aquaculture as well. Alterion probiotic is a feed additive containing Bacilus subtilis, for the time being for poultry species, the properties of which are significantly different from those on the market today. The product works on a double front, protecting the health of animals with the beneficial (commensal) bacteria living in symbiosis with the body, and reducing the presence of Clostridium perfingens leading to necrotic intestinal inflammation. It promotes the development of a stable immune system and the absorption of nutrients, thereby improving the average daily weight gain and feed specificity. The product can be officially used since January 2016 in the US, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
On the second day of our visit, we were able to make sure that the product was working properly with the help of autopsy.
ALTERION NE®
Recommended mixture: 10g ALTERION NE® (concentration – 1×10¹º CFU/g) product / finished feed ton. Available in 20 kg bags. The diluted version is ALTERION NE50® (concentration – 2×10⁸ CFU/g), the recommended mixture of which is 500g/ finished feed ton and is also available in 20 kg bags. It can be given to broilers from their first day of life until slaughter.
Of course, the product is free of GM organisms, does not contain animal-derived materials and has FAMIQs accreditation, is heat stable, so it can be pelleted without problems.
At the events organized by Adisseo, relaxation and informal conversation are also at the forefront in addition to science. In the evening, to have some fun, we started to explore the hidden memories of the Serbian capital. Belgrade, with its nearly 2 million inhabitants, lies at the junction of the Danube and the Sava. After 2 days, we can safely say that Serbia is deservedly famous for its gastronomy and hospitality.
